The jazz dancer everybody’s talking about right now is Alexandre McCormak. We are fortunate to have him in town for the dance show ”The Jam” (which you, by the way, need to see THE JAM ). In connection to "The Jam" Chicago is offering a workshop with Alexandre. Look at the clips below and you’ll understand why you need to take this opportunity.

LOCATION

The workshop will take place at Nockebysalen, Alviks kulturhus, Gustavslundsvägen 168A. Easy access from subway station Alvik.

MONDAY FEB. 5

18.15 - 19.15 Solo Blues & Shuffling - Let's explore how to slow things down with the inspiration of some of the Greats, such as Cab Calloway, Al Minns and Sandra Gibson.

TUESDAY FEB. 6

18.15 - 19.15 Solo Jazz - Foundation repertoire Part 1 - explore a variety of steps inspired by many of the Greats that will help you grow your repertoire and define your own personal style.

19.30 - 20.30 Solo Jazz - Foundation repertoire Part 2 - Personal Creativity

20.45 - 21.45 Solo Jazz - Bebop & Musicality - Discover how to sway to post war Jazz, including Jivin' and Boppin'. Learn how to improve your choreographic and freestyle skills relating to music, to both Swing and Bebop.

LEVELS

The levels are more or less open - but the classes will not be for beginners. The idea is work around an intermediate level but with room for dancers with both more and less experience.

ALEXANDRE McCORMAC

Alex is Benelux vice champion in breakdancing and has been

teaching urban dances for over 14 years. Later, McCormack

discovered old clips such as Hellzapoppin and Spirit Moves,

and said to himself “that’s how I want to dance this dance”. He

decided to ongo the never ending journey of studying

“oldschool” style of Lindy Hop and Authentic Jazz. For him,

originality and authenticity comes from individual expression

while remaining true to the dance and its founders. He will

jam for hours into the early morning to uptempo Bebop

Swing, shaky Mambo and slow Blues. Back in Brussels, he

trains with his group, the Old Soulz.
